Joe Peeler has edited many films, including Lucy Walker’s ACADEMY AWARD shortlisted HBO DOCUMENTARY short, THE LION’S MOUTH OPENS. He most recently edited multiple spots for Peter Berg’s NFL/VERIZON SUPER BOWL ad campaign, as well as multiple episodes of FLINT TOWN, a NETFLIX documentary series. Joe is currently directing the feature-length documentary, RINA SARINA WILD BALLERINA, slated for a 2020 premiere.
Joe began his career as assistant to legendary filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich. In 2013, he directed his first documentary, MULE DAYS, which won the 2013 CALIFORNIA FILM AWARD. In 2014, he directed GOOSES, a VIMEO STAFF PICKED short film based on his feature-length screenplay, GEM CITY. Since then, he’s edited ad campaigns for FX’s FARGO and LEVI’S; SUPER BOWL GREATEST COMMERCIALS hour-long special for CBS; and the documentary short THE LOS ANGELES RIVER, directed by Peabody Award winner Margaret Brown. Previously, he edited Brown's THE BLACK BELT and Nathan Truesdell’s THE ART OF MAKING MONEY for Field of Vision, Laura Poitras’s documentary production company.
Joe has written about film for FILMMAKER MAGAZINE, PASTE MAGAZINE and HAMMER TO NAIL, and plans to eventually write a graphic novel about his brief time in the company of Hollywood titans called "Pillow Talk with Peter Bogdanovich."
